“THE BLUEBELL WOOD WALK” – IFIELD SOCIETY’S SPRINGTIME RAMBLETTE – SATURDAY APRIL 27 2019

Ifield Society’s Springtime Ramblette “The Bluebell Wood Walk” took place today –  Saturday April 27 at 11am from The Plough in Ifield Village – with a return at 1pm.

Twenty-one intrepid walkers braved the elements – especially the wind – but thankfully the rain managed to hold off.

The carpets of bluebells were a little faded – as it was the end of April – but still worth seeing. It was agreed that next year the ‘rambette’ would take place earlier in the month to catch the bluebells in their fullest splendour.

£150 was raised for the Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.

Dear Editor

Ifield Society’s Springtime Ramblette “The Bluebell Wood Walk” took place last Saturday April 27 at 11am from The Plough in Ifield Village – with a return at 1pm [“Spring ramble”, WSCT letters, April 25).

Twenty-one intrepid walkers braved the elements – especially the wind – but thankfully the rain managed to hold off.

The walkers passed the grave of Mark Lemon [1809-1870] in St Margaret’s Parish church cemetery. He was co-founder of magazines ‘Punch’ and ‘The Field’, and a larger-than-life local character of his day.

Yours sincerely
