Horsham Society’s David Holmes says [“The future of Rookwood matters”, WSCT, June 11]:
“The development north of Horsham for 2,500 houses is just starting, and another 10,000 homes planned by the Government’s ‘Homes England’ wrapped around Kilnwood Vale. It makes no sense to build on Rookwood Golf Course as well”
Homes England’s £3bn masterplan of 10,000 houses East of Horsham [West of Crawley] – which has yet to be granted planning permission by Horsham District Council – starts with the destruction of Ifield Golf Course within the ancient Parish of Ifield.
With the Government’s rejection – again – of the urgent appeal by Horsham District Council [HDC] to reduce housing targets, there is very deep concern this will inevitably lead to an illusion of planning choice for HDC when they finally decide which sites to allocate for development. In other words, the only way to meet these insanely-high targets imposed by this developer-led Government is to ‘green-light’ Homes England’s £3bn masterplan.
There is also deep, continuing concern that the former Homes England Chairman Sir Edward Lister has become the Government’s Chief Strategic Adviser.
It is hoped this short protest will help spark a Public Inquiry or Judicial Review.
