Dear Editor
In his critique of the Government’s White Paper ‘Planning for the Future’ [“Measures are seriously flawed”, WSCT Letters, Aug 13], Dr Roger Smith of the Campaign to Protect Rural England states such measures “would result in areas outside of the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty…being designated ‘Growth Areas’…controlled by Government-appointed ‘Development Corporations’, with automatic approval for applications to build” – thus by-passing the democratic local planning process.
According to the Daily Telegraph Front Page on June 26 2020 [“Planning reforms out of Jenrick’s hands”], Development Corporations were – according to Downing Street – “not our policy”.
