THE RAMBLETTES ARE BACK! – SATURDAY – SEPTEMBER 5 2020 – ‘THE GOLF CLUB WALK’ – 11AM FROM THE PLOUGH IN IFIELD VILLAGE [RETURN BY 1PM]

THE ROUTE

Starting from The Plough, head towards the Parish Church. Go through The Lychgate and head west, with the Church on the right

Just before the gate at the Church’s west wall, pass the late 1800’s grave of two children, Fred and Edith Thornton, with the inscription: “No Pain No Grief Nor Anxious Fear Can Reach These Little Sleepers Here” – and other memorials:

Head straight west towards the Bridge over Ifield Brook

The Holly Blue Butterfly

Go over the bridge and immediately turn left over the ditch:

Head south across the fields, hugging Ifield Brook to the left, and make for the corner of the wooded area:

Just before entering the wooded area, look back:

Immediately on entering the wood, see the blue rope swing across the Brook. A walker [Ian M perhaps? On reflection, perhaps not!] may wish to display their athletic prowess by using the rope to cross the Brook at this point. Good luck to them but count me out! Then turn right, then left and over the ditch:

Keep straight, with the Brook always to the left and the new Maples homes to the right:

The old path eventually turns to the right and comes out on to the new gritted path at the end of The Maples development:

Walk straight through the new development until the junction of Drughorn Way and Rusper Road is reached. Turn left and immediately cross the road [carefully – fast moving traffic] and turn right into the Ifield Golf Club entrance, walking through the car park [with kind permission].

Head straight towards the Golf course, picking up the Public Footpath signs, passing the ‘J.F. Drughorn’ Obelisk on to the course, then head across to the right towards the small gap by the large houses [be careful and respectful of the golfers – it is a public footpath but it by the first tee and also cuts across the last tee].

Go through the gap in the hedge, turning left, then round the perimeter garden fence to the right, following the footpath signs and coming out on to Rusper Road:

Turn left along Rusper Road, crossing the road carefully. Walk along the road – carefully – making towards the Public Footpath sign at the entrance to Pound Cottages by the bend and turn right along the track:

Go along the track, past the haystack barn and head straight east across the open fields following the track until the bridge over Ifield Brook is reached:

Make towards the Parish Church. Go through the cemetery and pass Lychgate Cottages, back along Ifield Street to the Plough.
