Ghost Hedgehogs!

8 SEP 2020 —

This is going to be a busy update!

1. Welcome – in the last two days there have been well over 100,000 new signatures to the petition – this is amazing and means that the utterly impossible dream of getting us to a million is now quite realistic. So please keep sharing!

2. Ghost Hedgehogs – I am delighted to announce a new campaign launched by the Dorset Mammal Group. It featured in the Guardian – and hopefully elsewhere (please tell any media friends you might have) – it is such a good idea – anywhere a hedgehog is killed on the roads, you place a white wooden ‘ghost’ to remind motorists to slow down. Obviously these need to be small and on private property (or with the land owners permission) to not transgress planning laws. The Dorset Mammal Group are raising money for a hedgehog hospital – please visit this fundraising page and offer them your support. I would love to see Ghost Hedgehogs all over the country – take up the idea, spread the word. But I would also love to NOT see them (but only if they were not necessary!)

3. Book – Thursday 10th September – my latest book is launched. Due to that darn virus – public events are not happening – so we are launching it with an online event at 11am – it is free, but to be a part of the Zoom, you will need to book (it will be streamed on the Hedgehog Highways Facebook page – which is well worth joining). I am thrilled with the book – and the publishers, Graffeg, are offering a £1 donation to the British Hedgehog Preservation Society if you use the code CHANGE at checkout. The book is available elsewhere – please try your local bookshop – and failing that – the tax-dodging people at Amazon also have it available.

If you have any questions about hedgehogs – the comments that run beneath the update are hard to manage – so if you are able to join the Facebook group I do recommend it – there are over 10,000 people on it already and you will get answers to your questions far quicker that way!

Thank you for all your help and support – thank you for sharing the petition with friends and family – and thank you for buying my books … this, I know, bothers some people – but as a freelance writer – I do not have a ‘job’ that pays monthly … I only earn what I scrabble for – and book sales help.
