‘Beating the Bounds’ – Walking the Ancient Parish Boundary

 

 

THE ROUTE

[Please note: The Route may change on the day to “How Dare They! Parishioners’ Revolt I’ depending on changing circumstances, such as weather, numbers, demand etc]

 

Meet at the Plough at 11am

 

 

Get on No. 2 Bus at Ifield Parade [Westwards to Ifield West] – 11.14

 

Get off No 2 Bus Stop:  ‘Stoneycroft Walk’

Go straight west along woodland path

 

 

Turn left at the Public Footpath sign [with goalpost to the right]

Go through children’s play area

Follow footpath until ‘junction’ reached [at posts]

 

Turn left down wide track [the ancient parish boundary]

Carry on down until the railway crossing is reached

Cross over railway line – STOP – LOOK – LISTEN

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Turn left at Public Footpath sign [going towards Bewbush Water Gardens]

 

Bear right over bridge, then turn left [running parallel with Bewbush pond to the left]

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Turn left over Bewbush Pond bridge, then cross Bewbush railway bridge

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

SHORTER ROUTE

When 0ver bridge, keep straight on at Footpath Signs, cross road. Go round Dobbins Pond to Dobbins Place Bus Stop. Then take No. 2 Bus back to Ifield Parade]

 

 

 

LONGER ROUTE

When over bridge, turn right at Public Footpath signs

Keep straight along path until Ifield Mill and Millpond is reached

 

Reach the main road [Hyde Drive] and turn right, then cross the road at the mini-roundabout pedestrian crossing on Rusper Road

After the ‘Duck’ road sign, turn left along the narrow track into Ifield Brook Meadows [easily missed – if you reach the Ifield Park entrance on the right, you’ve missed it]

At the end of the narrow path by the Homes England ‘Private Land’ sign, bear right

Pass to Homes England ‘Private Land’ signs [and the red-reflector posts] on the right, with Rusper Road Playing Fields on the right.

Go round [or through] the red-reflector posts

Follow the path through the Meadows to the small bridge

Cross the small bridge [but do not cross the bridge over the Brook]

 

Bear right along the path, then right again along the grassy path to the bridge by the Barn and Church

 

By the pond bridge, turn left along the road [with car parks on left], behind Lychgate Cottages and the Plough.
