“THE FRIENDLY DRAGON OF IFIELD BROOK MEADOWS” – A Short Story for Children of All Ages – The Ifield Society

“THE ADVENTURE BEYOND” – A SEQUEL TO ‘THE FRIENDLY DRAGON OF IFIELD BROOK MEADOWS’

“Let’s go on the Adventure Beyond” said Friendly Dragon’s deer Friend.

Friendly Dragon – FD for short – didn’t understand.

But then, as we know, he wasn’t a very clever dragon. And, as we also know, he didn’t mind. He just loved being a dragon.

But it sounded really exciting and FD really trusted his deer Friend. So off they went on the Adventure Beyond – which we will call AB for short.

“Mr K The Kingfisher told me about the AB” said Friendly Dragon’s deer Friend.

FD liked the colourful Mr K. They sometimes met at the Brook and waved to each other – FD with his tail and Mr K with his wings.

“Let’s cross this bridge” said FD’s deer Friend.

FD had never crossed this bridge before. In fact, FD had never ever left Ifield Brook Meadows – except maybe in his dreams.

And then, just like that, he crossed the bridge.

“Oh, this is wonderful!” said Friendly Dragon, as he danced in the open barley fields, “And I can hear Assenda the Skylark!”

FD could hear the lovely song of his old friend Assenda, but couldn’t see her. Then suddenly, just like that, there she was in front of him.

“Hello Friendly Dragon. Would you like to fly with me, high up above the sky?”

“But I can’t fly!” said FD.

“Yes you can” said Assenda the Skylark “This is the Adventure Beyond”

And then, just like that, he began to fly – fly – fly – high above the sky.

And as he flew, there down below he could see his friends.

Can you see them?

There! Deer Friend waiting patiently in the Barley field.

There! Roy and Rita the Rabbits.

There! Monsieur Renard the Fox.

There! Derek the Dragonfly, flying around the meadows.

There! Bob and Brenda the Butterflies, fluttering from flower to flower.

There! Mr K the Kingfisher, busy fishing in the brook.

Friendly Dragon flew higher – higher – higher – high above the sky and beyond.

And then, just like that, he met his Great-Winged Friend.

Do you remember him?

Yes, Friendly Dragon’s winged friend who nested in the box on the tree where FD scratched his back.

“I’ve missed you so much” said Friendly Dragon.

“I’ve missed you too” said his Great-Winged Friend.

“Welcome home”
