‘PLATINUM JUBILEE NATURE RESERVE AND HERITAGE PARK – WEST OF IFIELD’ – PUBLIC QUESTION AT THE CABINET MEETING OF CRAWLEY BOROUGH COUNCIL [RE-SCHEDULED]

CRAWLEY BOROUGH COUNCIL CABINET MEETING – WEDNESDAY – JULY 6 2022 – 7PM

PUBLIC QUESTION: RICHARD SYMONDS – THE IFIELD SOCIETY

“With the recent discovery of a possible 3,500-year-old Bell Barrow burial ground to the West of Ifield, will this Council now consider a Platinum Jubilee National Nature Reserve and Heritage Park, combining Willoughby Fields Local Nature Reserve [LNR], Ifield Brook Meadows Local Green Space [LGS] and Ifield Millpond & Bewbush Water Gardens SNCI?

[As you can see, the Council has already provided a template for this: the Ifield Section of the Crawley Millennium Greenway 22 years ago]

SUPPLEMENTARY QUESTION

This Supplementary Question is directly related to the first question and indirectly related to today’s Crawley Observer Front Page Headline [see below]. It’s regarding Crawley’s Updated Local Plan Transport Study published yesterday online – specifically the ‘Local Plan Map’ and ‘Infrastructure’:

“What will happen to Willoughby Fields Local Nature Reserve if [to quote[ the “Indicative Search Corridor for a Western Link Road ST4 is given the go-ahead by the powers-that-be” ?

The proposed Link Road is running straight through the Nature Reserve.

For the life of me, I still fail to see the Councils’ logic behind this Link Road – and I’m not alone in this view – unless, of course, the monstrous masterplan of 10,000 houses is already a done deal.
