APRIL 23 2023 – “STREAMS AS TOILETS” WALK – FRIDAY APRIL 28 2023 – FROM/TO IFIELD MILL CAR PARK TO BEWBUSH BROOK AND WATER GARDENS

The ‘Streams as Toilets’ Walk took place this morning (Friday).

Eight concerned people walked along Bewbush Brook in Bewbush Water Gardens and Kilnwood Vale [and part of Ifield Brook in Ifield Brook Meadows]  – tributary streams of the River Mole, which flows through the ancient Parishes of Ifield and Rusper, north to the River Thames.

Walkers included Simon Collins of River Mole River Watch [RMRW]:

The pollution threat to the area is more serious than originally thought.

“STREAMS AS TOILETS” – “COLGATE STORM OVERFLOW [AT THAMES WATER COLGATE SEWAGE TREATMENT WORKS] IS YOUR MAIN CONCERN. IT IS ALLOWED TO DISCHARGE UNTREATED SEWAGE INTO IFIELD BROOK AT FOREST ROAD [COLGATE], FLOWING NORTH”

Colgate Sewage Treatment Works – X marks the spot [No data – Monitors inoperative]

“Flows into Foxhole Pond which joins Hoppers Brook just South of Holmbush Farm (paintball etc.) which joins/becomes Bewbush Brook just west of Pondtail Shaw. Bewbush Brook empties into the Millpond, of course, so there’s your confirmation that Colgate Sewage works discharge, indirectly, into Ifield Brook” – Ian Mulcahy

What about Crawley?! Is sewage as well as houses being dumped in Crawley? Is this a disaster waiting to happen?
