OCTOBER 7 2023 – THE SATURDAY WALK – ‘TAKE A WALK ON THE WILD SIDE’ – THE PROPOSED ‘IFIELD BROOKS LOCAL NATURE RESERVE AND HERITAGE SITE”

SEPTEMBER 30 2023 – THE SATURDAY WALK – ‘LOCAL NATURE RESERVE OR LOCAL NATURE NIGHTMARE?’ – BEWBUSH WATER GARDENS AND BEYOND – 11AM FROM THE PLOUGH IN IFIELD [RETURN BY 1.30PM] – The Ifield Society

WHY IS THIS CRITICALLY IMPORTANT?

Bewbush Brook flows north from Colgate Sewage Treatment Works/Holmbush into the Kilnwood Vale development/landfill site [within the Horsham District Council boundary].

The Brook then flows into the ‘Water Garden’ [Bewbush Water Gardens ‘Fields In Trust’/Queen Elizabeth II-designated protection]. It then flows into the Mill Pond [Site of Nature Conservation Interest-SNCI], then flows into Ifield Brook [Local Green Space – LGS] through to Willoughby Fields [Local Nature Reserve – LNR] – all within the Crawley Borough Council boundary – flowing into the River Mole and then finally the River Thames.

Thus, Bewbush Brook and Ifield Brook are the major tributaries of the River Mole flowing through Crawley.

If the source of the pollution/contamination at Bewbush Water Gardens Kilnwood Vale is traced to the Kilnwood Vale development/landfill – yet to be confirmed by the Environment Agency – then this will pollute/contaminate the Mill Pond, Ifield Brook and the River Mole.

If the Thames Water sewage/water system cannot already cope with the pollution/contamination problem from Kilnwood Vale, just imagine the environmental/ecological catastrophe if the insane masterplan of government quango/state developer Homes England [10,000 houses ‘West of Ifield’ which encircle the whole area] gets the ‘green light’ from Horsham District Council. Dead fish will be the least of our problems.

The ‘Save West of Ifield’ campaign – and others – are trying to stop this insane plan, but it can’t do it on its own. It needs all of us in the community to play our part in preventing this catastrophe.
